亨德里克·威廉·房龙(Hendrik Willem Van Loon1882--1944),荷裔美国人,著名学者、作家、历史地理学家。1882年出生在荷兰,他是出色的通俗作家,伟大的文化普及者他在历史、文化、文明、科学等方面都有著作,而且读者众多。他的作品早在二十世纪二三十年代就被引人中国,影响了整整一代人。房龙的主要著述有:《荷兰航海家宝典》(1916)、《发现简史》(1917)、《古人类》(1920)、《人类的故事》(1921)、《圣经的故事》(1923)、《太平洋的故事》(1940)等。他的地理学代表著作《房龙地理》用生动浅显的语言诠释了“人文地理”这一概念,是读者了解世界地理的入门级读物。
