随着共建一带一路倡议的持续推进，中国与世界各国的铁路合作项目稳步开展。2017年5月31号，肯尼亚蒙内铁路（东起港口蒙巴萨，西至首都内罗毕）正式通车。这是海外首条采用中国标准全方位运营维护的国际干线铁路。由中方负责蒙内铁路的日常运营与维护，并承担肯尼亚员工的岗位培训工作，直至本土化员工完全胜任后，逐步落实蒙内铁路的属地化管理。2018年5月，西安铁路职业技术学院与中国路桥蒙内铁路运营公司签署了内燃机车、铁道车辆专业的运用与检修岗位员工培训协议，编者团队主要成员师玲萍、包燕远赴非洲肯尼亚，开展了为期100多天的车辆定检班和车辆运用班的员工培训工作。
2019年，编者团队利用海外教学的积累经验，以典型岗位工作流程为主线，融合英语语言技能需求，对援非自编双语教材进行整合优化编纂本书，以期对我国铁道车辆高职教育做出应有贡献。
全书共分为3个模块，9个项目，共计19个任务。模块一主要讲述铁道车辆机械装置的检修工艺，具体介绍铁道车辆基本知识、转向架、车钩缓冲装置、车体等部件的系统组成、结构特点、作用原理以及重要零部件的检修方法；模块二主要讲述铁道车辆制动装置的检修工艺，详细介绍客货车主型空气制动机的系统组成、结构特点、工作原理以及制动机的性能试验；模块三主要讲述车辆电气装置的检修工艺，重点介绍DC600V客车供配电设备、车辆用电装置以及客车行车安全监测诊断系统的系统组成、主要功能、结构特点和检修方法。
